Errata (since 1998)

Pages - File Tabs – Posters - Charts - Catalogues - Instrumental Box - Objects

series of works on art market themes.

Concept

By means of the delirious conversion of dollar to centimeters, Errata extremes the plot of the value status. The value conferred on Fine Arts by the market and the value conferred on the market by the universe of Fine Arts.

Errata reflects on the extra-artistic attributes, such as the impact of the market, money and business on the perception of art and its value hierarchies. Errata asks “to what extent” the art market, which models a circulation, collecting and heritage system, activates the value’s construction of not only economic, but also symbolic.

Description

The Errata method proposes to approach certain representation and visibility technologies of the Sotheby’s and Christie’s auctions, reinterprets and reverses their catalogues.

Through a pattern (Canon) that passes dollars to centimeters, the auctioned works are subjected to a process of expansion and contraction due to their horizontal coordinate, depending on whether the Canon exceeds or depreciates. Some pieces can take several meters and others almost disappear.
All of them, at some point in space, and as a baroque exercise of anamorphosis, build their original measure. Finally, the sale price of each artwork is what produces the visual event, the final price of each auctioned artwork is validated on itself, on its own form.

Auction Market & Money.(It also investigates market, money and business impact on our perception of art).
